What Causes Elevated TSH Levels?

My TSH has elevated from 3.3 to 8.4 in the last 6 months. I have been on thyroid meds for many of years. My Family Doctor has increased my med from 88 mg. to 1.00 mcg. I have been on new med for almost 2 weeks. I will be seeing him in May. What could have caused this increase? And I just don t feel good, tired, no energy and I feel like my body is on fire.
