What Causes Elevated Heart Rate?

Hello, I noticed very suddenly that my heart feels as if it is racing. In reality, it is only slightly elevated. Is it possible that something I'm eating or drinking could be the culprit? This is not the first time in the past month I have felt this way. I am an otherwise healthy 26 year old with an active lifestyle and good diet.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I would explain that caffeine intake may trigger this clinical situation.

For this reason, I would recommend avoiding coffee or energy drinks in the future.

Anxiety can mimic this clinical situation too.

If these episodes persist, I would recommend checking thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
