Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Since January 1st, I have an elevated pulse every time I move, even slowly. In September I climbed Mt Hood in OR with ease. Now I can t walk across the room without my pulse going to 110. I have had a heart stress echo and they found nothing wrong with my heart. I have had my blood pressure checked multiple times and it s good. I had my blood sugar checked and it is good. I have had my thyroid checked and they said it was a little low. I had hyperactive thyroid 30 years ago. This feels the same except that when I am sitting, my pulse goes into the 60s. Before it was always high.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I would explain that these heart rate fluctuations could be related to thyroid gland dysfunction. For this reason, it is important consulting with an endocrinologist and take the proper therapy. If your complaints persist despite correcting thyroid hormone levels, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing further tests:
- An ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to examine your heart rhythm trends during the day and exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia
- A Head Up Tilt test for possible postural tachycardia.
-You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
