What Causes Elevated Triglyceride Levels?

Doctor, I've been reading this and other forums in reference to the normal triglyceride count and what's condidered to be elevated. I recently completed my physical exam and was adviced to lower my triglyceride count which is at 245. I weight 195lbs, 5-10 and workout everyday (Active Duty military). I don't smoke but drink a good wine at least every other weekend. We consider ourselves a very healthy family since we don't fry anything, we don't eat fast food out and we are all very active. What could be the cause of this elevated levels?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Yes, your triglycerides are high.
2. Difficult to identify the cause, but it is only slightly elevated. It could be alcohol. Alcohol commonly raises triglycerides.
3. Check for triglycerides again after a month. If high, you can try taking fibrates or niacin to help in triglyceride control. Include more omega 3-fatty acids in diet. Avoid alcohol.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
