Hello,
Diltiazem is a prescription drug that’s used to treat angina (
chest pain) and
hypertension (
high blood pressure).
Diltiazem is used to treat angina chest pain and high blood pressure and belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers.
Diltiazem works by relaxing the blood vessels in your heart and body which reduces your blood pressure.
This drug also lowers your
heart rate and dilates your coronary arteries.
This means that the heart doesn’t have to work as hard to pump blood throughout your body.
These effects, combined with lowering your blood pressure, help to reduce angina and chest pain.
If you don't take it, your blood pressure and chest pain could get worse.
This can increase the risk of
heart attack or stroke. Don’t stop taking diltiazem suddenly as your blood pressure can become higher if you stop taking this drug suddenly.
Your doctor needs to start an alternative drug for hypertension. Please revisit your doctor or a senior cardiologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
