What Causes Enlarged Painful Swelling Of Lymph Nodes Under Armpit?
Hello, My wife had a lymph node removed from her Rt Arm Pit a few months ago as it was enlarged and quite painful. The node came back benign. She had a Rt. Hemicolectomy from a 2.5cm Carcinoid tumor in her appendix approx 7 months ago. Other than the appendiceal carcinoid, all the nodes, glands, and colon came back benign. Not sure why all the sudden she is having enlarged painful swelling of the nodes under her armpit. She is currently taking a steroid with no resolve; any help would be greatly appreciative?
Enlarge painful nodes is surely not due to carcinoid tumour as tumour lymph nodes are mostly painless. It can be due to a breast infection or abscess. Also steroid is not right treatment for it as it increases chances of infection. So I would suggest you to get her blood investigations like ESR, WBC and CRP. these tests will tell us about any hidden infection in the body. I would also suggest you to get ultrasound of the breast. As there can be some fluid collection inside.
