Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
went to the doctor, bp was 160 over 120, they ran an ecg, said i have a right bundle block and englarged left atrium, could be from the high bp, i'm 37 female, also suffer with anxiety attacks, put on beta blockers. Very scared, if englargment doesn't go down, is heart surgery in my future?
Appropriate treatment demands accurate diagnosis / Diagnosis needs physician consultation and investigations… / You need more investigations
Enlarged left atrium could be from the increased pressure / The block could have been congenital! / Both can be from a common defect… / Anyway, surgery is most unlikely
EKG / HOLTER (24 to 48 hour ambulatory monitoring) / ECHOcardiogram / TMT (Treadmill exercise ECG) / LABORATORY work-up – may all be necessary for further assessment and assistance. The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.
Take care Good luck
