Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Episode Of Flutters And Jerking Of Legs During Sleep?
Im a 36 year old female and within the last few days I have been waking up through the night-all night- with I guess heart flutters. Its almost like my heart has stopped beating and Im jolted awake. At times my limbs will jerk, like my leg or even a muscle in my back area but not always. I just tried to take a nap and I kept doing it. I quit smoking about 5 1/2 weeks ago and did smoke one cigarette the other day and have felt this way since...any connection? Im really worried and I dont feel well at all...
After going through your medical details I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that palpitations in night mostly happens because of gastritis due to heavy or spicy meals or smoking, but is recommended for you to get an ECG done to exclude any heart arrhythmia or get a Holter (ambulatory ecg) to record ecg at the time of event.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhanu Partap,
Cardiologist
