What Causes Episodes Of Choking Of Food In Esophagus?
I have intermitent episodes while eating when food starts packing my esophsagus causing mid to rt spine pain. It comes on mostly when I am very hungry or a special meal is prepared. I feel it is vagus nerve spasm closing the lower esoph sphincter. If i realize intime I take an OTC simenthicone cap. This started over 20 years ago at a resaurant. I thought it was a gall bladder attack

You may have some obstruction in your esophagus. A band like tissue at the base of your esophagus or a hyperactive lower esophageal valve may prevent food from entering your stomach and cause a backlog in your esophagus. This leads to you vomiting or choking episodes.You need to visit a general surgeon and he/she will do a test called a barium swallow or an endoscopy to visualize your esophagus. This will help us locate any obstructions.
