Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 67 year old husband has been having bouts of tears--tearing up more than out loud crying--for seemingly no reason. When I ask him why he s tearing up or crying, he says he doesn t know. He says he can t explain it. He had a small stroke /TIA last summer, and I wonder if this is related? Or could it be something else? Early onset dementia? Low testosterone?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your description it seems like depressive episodes which is quite common among elderly. Other possibilities are Alzheimer’s disease and early onset dementia. Consult a neurologist and he will direct you accordingly. Most often psychiatrist evaluation may be needed.
Keep him engaged, avoid unwanted stress and anxiety.
Thanks
