What Causes Excessive Menstrual Bleeding After Intentionally Delaying Menstruation?
I purposefully skipped my period a few months back (kept taking my active pills from my pill pack) and didn t have my period that month. I planned on also skipping the next month, but I started my period on the day that I was supposed to start even though I was taking my active pills. I continued to take my active pills when I was on my period because I planned on skipping my period anyways. But my period that month lasted about 16 days...I assumed this was because I had two months worth of uterine lining built up so I didn t worry too much about it. This month I was technically supposed to start a week ago from when my last period started, but I haven t. Is it possible I m skipping my period this month because I had such a long period last month? Because even though my period STARTED over 28 days ago, it didn t end until a few weeks ago. Should I be worried or is this normal? And when should I expect my next period? I feel like my timing with my birth control pills are all messed up now.

What Causes Excessive Menstrual Bleeding After Intentionally Delaying Menstruation?
Hello, The commonest cause of excessive menstrual bleeding is a hormonal imbalance. You are messed up with your intake of the birth control pills so it (hormones) could be a reason. Medical conditions like uterine fibroid, endometrial polyps, endometriosis & adenomyosis may also cause heavy menstrual bleeding. You are suggested to visit a gynecologist & get your pelvic examination done. You may have to go through some blood & Imaging tests (USG uterus). Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. You may need medications, hormone therapy or surgery. Stay well nourished, take protein, iron & calcium-rich food. You may also take vitamin supplements. Avoid addictions if any. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
