What Causes Excessive Sweating And Insomnia While On Celexa?

My husband was on Celexa for about 7 weeks and started having severe side effects. His personality changed, he was sweating, couldn t sleep. He went 5 days straight 2 weeks in a row not being able to sleep. His eyes were dilated, he had confusion. We think that someone was putting amphetamines in his coffee because after he had coffee, about 30-60 minutes later,he was all over the place with energy he shouldn t have had due to lack of sleep. I have seen him go without sleep before but it was only about 40 hours and when he would sit down he would fall right to sleep.

Hi,

Insomnia & sweating that your husband is experiencing may be due to side effects of Celexa (Citalopram hydrobromide). Celexa is usually started with an initial dose once daily, if the patient is comfortable the dose need not be increased but if it is required, it can be given to a maximum dose daily.

Be careful about the dosage of the medication. Inform the treating PCP of the other medications that he is taking as many drugs interact with Celexa & may cause palpitations, sweating, insomnia & other symptoms. The medication can be substituted with other medication or dosage altered. Keep him well hydrated.
