I am a 57 year old female who has been experiencing extreme episodes of sweating lasting sometimes for a couple of hours. Hair dripping. Feel tired most of the time. Dr. just took me off Zoloft thinking that may be causing the extreme sweating. I had been on 100mg of Zoloft for about 13 years. I also take Wellbutrin XL 300. My A1C was 6.1. Doctor doesn't seemed concerned with A1C. I just don't know what can be causing such extreme sweating. Any ideas? Thanks, Marilyn
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There are a lot of potential causes that may cause excessive sweating also called Hyperhydrosis. First think i suggest to you is to do the thyroid tests(TSH,fT3 and fT4) to see if you have any thyroid problem that can explain your excessive sweating. Hyperthyroidism can be a common cause of hyperhydrosis and the thyroid tests can clarifie if there is a correlation between the thyroid and your actual symptom. Fever, infection and hypoglicemia can be other potential causes of excessive sweating but in my opinion these are not the root cause of your problem. My advice is to consult your treating psychiatrist because in my opinion depression or your actual medication(Wellbutrin xl 300 mg) is the cause of your problem. Anyway, your doctor will decide if you should change the actual medication or not.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
