What Causes Excessive Weakness And Sleep While On Lansoprazole?

I am trying to stop using Lansoprazole. At the present time I am using it every second day, but already I feel weak, sleeps a lot. I had a very difficult stomach surgery in l994 and have been on that drug since then. I want to discontinue taking it. What do you recommend.

Hi,

Long-term administration of proton pump inhibitor like Lansoprazole may cause vitamin B12-deficiency anemia by perpetual acid suppression. So also there may occur interference with absorption of iron and calcium.

Renal parenchymal damage (interstitial nephritis) also can occur. Hence go for complete blood count, serum calcium and renal function tests like BUN and serum creatinine as initial investigation.
