What Causes Excessive Weight Loss And Poor Appetite?
Hi My mom is 77 years old and has felt bad on and off for about 3 months. She said now she feels bad every day recently mid morning. She said she can t describe exactly how she feels but it s awful. She s lost weight and her appetite isn t what it used to be. She feels bad mid morning after breakfast normally ( a few hours later). She said she can have a full breakfast or just a piece of toast and feels absolutely terrible. Her blood sugar results were normal last year when she had her physical. The no appetite and feeling bad every single day for several hours does not sound good.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I have read your complaints thoroughly and I am of the opinion that it is important that she consults a psychiatrist and a psychologist for counselling as she may be suffering from depression. It is common in the elderly age group. However, emotional support from family is more important. Do spend more time with her. Engage her with mild activities like meeting up with friends and socializing more with people around her.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr Riyanka Chail
