What Causes Excruciating Lower Back Pain On Left Side?

I had bad cramps on my left side last weekend. Since Monday I have had excruciating lower back pain on my left side below my hip. I feel like it s menstrual related as I am 51 and approaching menopause. Could I have a cyst? I haven t lifted anything. It hurts a LOT more when I am sitting down in my chair at the office. I can barely walk at first when I get up and then it gets a lot better while I am standing.

Hello,
At your age, symptoms can often be related to many causes. This pain can be related to the ovaries, hip joint, urinary system or simply abdominal musculature. If you are regularly menstruating until now, cysts are unlikely. Yet, you should get regular evaluation once every six months/year. The fact that you feel the pain more with pelvic pressure means that you should also get a trans-vaginal sonogram in addition to urinalysis and orthopedic opinion. Try to lie down during the day also to relieve pressure. Hope this helps.
