My mother is currently in bed asleep. She is diabetic and she has been asking me to phone a doctor which I am unable to do at the moment. She is exausted and can barely open her eyes even though she has been asleep basically since last night. I took her blood count and it was 12.7. I m just not sure how I can help her.
when diabetic patients feel exhausted, hyper or hypo glycemia should be ruled out. A self-measurement should suffice. If it's too low then immediately replenishing the missing glucose is essential. Do not try to give anything by mouth if she's not alert or the food/drink may end up in her lungs. Call for help in that case, because she should be transported to the hospital. If the blood sugar is too high and this has been going on for many days then she's probably dehydrated and needs further investigation and fluid replenishment. Of course there are possible causes of exhaustion, including fever, electrolyte imbalance etc I couldn't give a more specific answer with the provided information. If you need further guidance, then please provide the details (did she have any symptoms the last few days? fever? what drugs does she take? etc). I'll be glad to help.
Kind Regards!
