Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what are some of the causes of extreme fatigue in a man 68 years of age? I've had a stress test, and echo and a lot of blood work, everything came back negative. I was told I was just getting older. I'm not sure how to process that. I've been extremely active all of my life. I'm not over weight. I've been retired for 4 years and I've stayed active. We have 40 acres and I work on it all of the time, plus other things. I'm not ready to sit down in a rocker and wait to die. I'm tired of feeling this way. I want to go and do not sit and wait.
There is a condition called chronic fatigue syndrome which causes severe fatigue and is difficult to diagnose. No good test exists for it and it's considered a diagnosis of exclusion. In other words, other more likely conditions are ruled out by laboratory and other testing, such as you've had. When everything is negative, and you meet certain criteria regarding your signs and symptoms, a diagnosis of CFS is made. There is no specific treatment for it and the cause is unknown. It can last for years. You might want to talk to your doctor about this possibility and specifically address it. Hope this helps.
Dear; thanks for using our service. It looks that your cardiovascular system is fine. However, you might want to check hormone levels, including testosterone and Thyroid ( HYPOTHYROIDISM ). I hope my advise has been helpful Dr Sara
