What Causes Extreme Fatigue, Sleeplessness And Chest Discomfort?

For several weeks I have felt extreme fatigue but cannot sleep more that a couple hours. I am overall experiencing weakness. I have recently began to experience overwhelming sadness. I also have had several short periods of chest discomfort although I recently had a full battery of cardiac test that all came out not just ok but good . In the past week I have started having loss of appetite and today nausea. For several weeks I have had what I thought could be GERD. The only dietary change is about a month ago I started eating a lot of popcorn and soft drinks. Never wanted it before but the craving is relentless. Because my breast are also tender I first thought it was hormonal but had labs done three days ago and all are normal. About two months ago I noticed the hair on my arms and legs is no longer growing and my hair is dry and brittle and is thinning. In the past week my hands have started swelling. I have no other health problems. I am a naturalist and take vitamins and supplements and don t like to take pharmaceuticals. What could possibly be wrong with me.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Most of your actual symptoms can be part of a syndrome called hypothyroidism. For this reason,If you sere my patient i will suggest to do first the thyroid tests TSH ,fT3and fT4. The most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's thyroiditis and in my opinion this is your exact diagnosis. Anyway to confirm or exclude this diagnosis,it is necessary to do the TPO antibodies test. So to resume,in my opinion your actual symptoms can be a sign that your thyroid gland is not functioning properly and you need to do the thyroid test to clarified the situation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
