Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Eye Pain, Tingling In Lips And Headaches?
For about a year I have been having off and on pain in the back of my head(both sides). Recently I have developed right eye pain, numbness and tingling in my lips and mouth, dizziness accompanies the head pain and occasional tremors. The MRI proved unremarkable and my neurologist says this is normal for women over 40 is this true? Something doesn t feel right.
This combination of symptoms is not normal for anyone. Perhaps s/he was thinking it may be related to hormones which start changing in middle-aged women. But I would not dismiss such symptoms to that. It is reassuring that the MRI is unremarkable. Migraines might cause some of these symptoms. You could also get numbness and tingling from hyperventilating, which you might be doing unconsciously when the headaches are bad. You might also confirm if the MRI looked at the lower part of your brain which is where the nerves to the eyes, lips, and mouth are. Sometimes special views need to be requested. You should also have a good eye exam with an ophthalmologist. But don't dismiss this as "normal". Hope this answers your query.
