Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Face, Ankles, Legs And Hands Swelling After Childbirth?
I gave birth on Saturday to my 8th baby. Yesterday my ankles, legs, and hands started swelling to the point that my feet and toes felt numb. After resting tonight my face is now also puffy looking. I've never had anything like this with the past births, should I go to my doctor or is it normal?
Anytime during a pregnancy when a woman experiences swelling, called edema, we sometimes can become concerned about a problem called preeclampsia. This is defined as elevated blood pressure, swelling and protein in the urine. This problem can also develop after a delivery. You need to be seen now to have your blood pressure checked, the edema assessed and your urine checked for protein. This is very important.
I hope that this helps and good luck.
