What Causes Faintness?

I ve been an active person and in good shape all of my life. I m now 34 and over the last couple of years have had a few occasions where I was really close to black out or faint during exercise. Many of these times it occured when I was really trying to push myself. I always drink plenty of fluids and eat enough foods. However, today I went for a light 5 minute jog and it happend again. I generally feel pretty poor afterwards for the rest of the night. The last couple of years I have also noticed from time to time that I have shortness of breath and light headed. I had a stress test last year and the Doctors said that everything was fine. My bloodwork also showed that my blood sugar and chole were fine.

Hi,

First of all, you should measure your blood pressure and if it was high, you would receive the medical treatment, decrease salt and fat in your meal, do kidney function test. Second, too much caffeine in tea, cafe and cigarette smoking can cause cause similar symptoms. For women, the irregular menses, the hormonal therapy for contraception or replacement therapy can affect the heart and the blood vessels, so the woman should ask a gynecologist for help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mustafa, Neurologist
