What Causes Fatigue And Hoarse Voice While Suffering From Follicular Neoplasm In Thyroid?
I have a follicular neoplasm in my thyroid. I am 57 and they have recommended removal of the entire thyroid and that will be done in 2 weeks. I know sometimes they are benign, but the symptoms I have; extreme fatigue, continual lightheadedness, hoarseness, intermittent nausea are those of cancer. I have normal TSH, T3, T4. Could it possibly still be benign; and could we be looking in the wrong place re my symptoms?
Hi, Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
If your thyroid function tests are normal your fatigue and tiredness may not be related to thyroid nodule. A large thyroid swelling can press up on the nerves to your vocal cord and cause hoarseness. Similarly it can press on the blood vessels to brain and cause lightheadedness and giddiness.
The possibility of malignancy in follicular neoplasm is 10-15%. So higher chance is for a benign (non cancerous) nodule.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help With warm regards, Dr Ajish TP (MD,DM) Consultant Endocrinologist.
