What Causes Fatigue And Hot Sweats After Taking Levothyroxine?

I take 100mcg of levothyroxine daily. I have the level checked every 3 months, but I still get very fatigued, grumpy, and suffer from either hot sweats, or cold spells. I am 67 and have a complete hysterectomy.Should I add another supplement such as iodine?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
If your TSH, FT4 and FT3 values are in the normal range, then levothyroxine 100ug is the correct dose for you. Both hypo and hyperthyroidism can cause some of your symptoms and it is important to maintain the correct level of these hormones. Adding iodine supplement is not indicated if these hormonal values are normal.
In your condition, your hypothyroidism is unlikely to be due to dietary deficiency and therefore you may not have any effect and if your values are in the hypothyroid range, your doctor may increase your levothyroxine dose.
Wish you good health.
