What Causes Fatigue And Lower Back Pain While On Sulfamethoxazole?

I had a minor surgery 10 days ago. I am taking sulfamethoxazole as rx by my doctor. The last two days I have been tired and ache in my lower back. I have a slight fever and red dots all over my thighs and abdomen. This feels like the flu, but the spots are strange. What do you think is going on?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Sulfamethoxazole is quite outdated and usually prescribed with Trimethoprim combination as it is unlikely to be effective alone. It can give rise to variety of side effects including allergic skin reactions (such as rash and urticaria). I suggest to switch over to some other safer anti-bacterial medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
