Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Been taking 50 mg metaprololol tid. been causing fatigue and raynauds [sic] in hand and right arm. I have indications of probable pulmonary hypertension with rt heart enlargement and long standing copd, I am considering starting on Calan sp 120 in AM and 50 metaprololol tartrate at bed time. Other than exadurated lowering of BP, what else should I expect ?
Beta-blocker like metoprolol should be avoided in COPD. Dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (e.g. amlodipine ) is preferable for control of hypertension in COPD rather than non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker like Calan sp 120(verapamil).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
