i was on the treadmill and all of sudden it felt like my heart was in my throat. I slowed down and it stopped right away. I have had a little anxiety lately about my heart because I think I pulled a muscle in my chest while swimming the other day....

Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic

I have read the query and understand your concern, the feeling of having heart in your throat is due to palpitations which is feeling of your own heartbeat.

Most of the times,it is a normal phenomenon as in your case and is experienced during exercise, stress, anxiety, fever, caffeine intake, etc.
I usually suggest my patients simple measures for reduction of palpitations:

1. Reduction in intake of caffeine containing products.

2. Practicing meditation, yoga for better stress and anxiety relief.

3. Regular exercise will help reduce the palpitations.

4. Cessation of smoking is important as it contains nicotine which causes
tachycardia(i.e increased heart rate).

5.If you find a regular occurrence of palpitations even at rest consult a cardiologist and ask about his expert opinion about getting an ECG done to rule out any cardiac pathology which can be a cause of palpitations.

Don't worry,as far as your pulled muscle is concerned I suggest you a muscle relaxant like tab.myospaz forte and an anti-inflammatory like tab.ibuprofen.

Kindly rate my answer if you find it useful.Feel free to ask any further queries.Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Tushar Tamboli
