What Causes Fever, Bleeding Gums And Vomiting?

My dad is admitted in the hospital with slight Fever,bleeding gums,vomiting just once.his platelet count was 150000 yesterday but today it fell to 60000.today is the 5th day of his fever.though fever is 99f no rashes or bodyaches.is it possible that in one night it almost falls to more than half?
