Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fever, Coughing And Sores On Legs/buttocks Of A Child?
Hi, I have 2 girls ages 6 & 9. They both have low-grade fevers and the 9 year old is going on her 5th day. They both have very mucus-y coughs and are very tired. Both of them also have a few pimple-looking sores on their legs and buttocks. Can you tell me what this might be and if it will clear on its own or if they should be seen by a doctor?
By what you say I feel that both your kids are down with a viral illness.
I will explain to you how a viral illness behaves so that you can be more confident.
Fever of a few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually, rather than fever, what is more, important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably a viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about the duration if the kid is active.
Paracetamol can be given that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
