What Causes Fever For 8 Days To A 9 Year Old?
My daughter, age 9, has had a fever. Today is the 8th day.
She has been to the walk-in clinic twice. The first day they said ear infection so she has been on antibiotics for 7 days. What viruses casues fevers this long? Her cough is horrible, even with cough syrup with codeine. She has asthma but I am told her lungs sound clear- she I insist on a chest x-ray to be sure?

Infection s by atypical organisms can cause prolonged fevers and intense cough like this. This can also be caused by 100's of viruses.
Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If she is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active. You can treat fever with Paracetamol at 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly if fever is > 100F.
