What Causes Fever In The Head And Chest Area Of A 6 Month Old?
my baby is 8 months old and has had a fever for 2.5 days. The fever seems to be only in her head, neck area: her chest, back area all seem to be normal temp. Infact, we I take her temperature in her bottom, it is lower than if I take it under her armpit. bottom temp: 100.1F, armpit temp: 100.9F. For 4-5 days prior to running a fever, she had had loose stools, those have now subsided, but she still has a fever. Should we take her to the pediatrician in the AM?
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
Fever of 2.5 days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
You can treat fever with Paracetamol at 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly if fever is > 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever as usually most combination medicines combine Paracetamol with NSAIDs and is not advisable.
