Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Chances of HIV infection in a male from a single unprotected sexual encounter with an HIV positive female are about 1 in 2500.
However, every sexual encounter with an HIV positive sexual partner carries a risk of transmitting infection.
The risk of transmission also depends on viral load of the patient and whether the infected person is on treatment or not.
Patients who have a high viral load are more infectious and those on treatment are less infectious.
Since your sexual contact was not entirely protected, therefore, you must get yourself screened for HIV and other STD's like syphilis, genital herpes as well.
Screening for HIV can be performed earliest at 4 weeks after a risky sexual encounter.
This should be repeated again at 12 weeks for a conclusive result. Second test at 12 weeks is to cover for the window period of HIV detection.
In your case, it has already been more than 4 weeks after this particular sexual contact, therefore, you can take up a screening test right away.
Your symptoms could be due to an unrelated illness but in your setting HIV should be ruled out with appropriate testing.
