What Causes Finger And Mouth Twitching?

Hi. My thumbs (sometimes other fingers also) twitch when I slightly move them closer to the index finger. And when I m smiling, some minutes later, my corner of the mouth also twitches...but that doesn t last very long. So I m worried it may be Parkinson s disease (my grandmother has it) or something other serious. But can it be, I m only 17. I hope you can help. Thank you!

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Check your calcium levels please. Sudden onset twitching indicates calcium deficiency, specially of face. Also, Parkinson's is very much unlikely at your age.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nilofer Zamani, Internal Medicine Specialist
