What Causes Flashes, Floaters And Diminishing Eyesight In Cataract Patient After Surgery?

Hello...if a cataract patient experiences flashes, black floaters, diminishing eyesight and soreness behind the eye about 4 months after surgery is it normal for the surgeon to not send patient to a retina specialist immediately? If surgeon does nothing and same patient contacts surgeon two weeks later to say they now have no vision in same eye and can only see red rim of the lens it is normal for surgeon to tell patient that it is a Sunday and nothing can be done until Monday morning. If indeed the patient suffered a retina detachment every minute that goes by would cause total blindess if left untreated. What is the normal protocall?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that a cataract patient is experiencing flashes of light and floaters and dimunition of vision following a cataract surgery. These symptoms indicate problems in the posterior segment like vitreous degenerations or retinal tears and hence requires evaluation by retina specialist.
Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist preferably a retina specialist for examination and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
