What Causes Flashes Of Light In The Line Of Vision?

My husband has been seeing flashes of lights when he sits down in the mornings. He says its like fireworks that go up. It lasts about 30 seconds and he says if he closes his eyes they go away. He is in good health and is 61 years old. He is 5 8 and weighs 150. His blood pressure is 130 over 75.
