What Causes Flashes Of Light When Suffering From Cataract?

I have cataracts. Getting ready for IOL 3 weeks from now. New symptom is flashing lights on
movement of my eye to the far left or right...sort of a round "flash" or glare. Am I okay? Is
this normal...this is my left eye which is a stage "3" cataract and the one having surgery first in
3 weeks.
