What Causes Fluctuating BP Readings When Diagnosed With Parkinson S Disease?
Hi. I m doing some research for my mother who is 87 and who lives in Australia. She has Parkinsons Disease and for the last couple of years has experienced wide fluctuations in blood pressure, from very low to very high. When pressure goes very high she is given a spray (once or twice) and this reduces the pressure. Her neurologist would like her to use less spray and gave her some suggestions about how to get up gradually, not making sudden movements. She can t remember the other suggestions (simple exercises and life style stuff) he gave to help her use less medication. Can you suggest a website or videos that might help? Many thanks. Cath

What Causes Fluctuating BP Readings When Diagnosed With Parkinson S Disease?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. The patient seems to be facing the autonomic features of Parkinsonism. And I agree the spray should not be used too frequently. I recommend 1. getting up slowly 2. hang her feet and wriggle toes before getting up 3. plenty of fluids 4. get up slowly. For videos you can search for Exercises for Autonomic dysfunction on suitable websites. I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Feel free to contact me if you need any more information. Best wishes. Dr Mittal
