What Causes Fluid Accumulation In The Brain In A 78 Year Old?
my mother is 78 years old, and has just had a shunt placed in her brain to drain fluid, she is currently in rehab I also believe she has dementia or Alzheimer s, I am trying to find a doctor that she can see as a primary care physician, in the Collierville, Germantown, area. Someone that deals with elderly patients . Any suggestions?
hi I understand your concerns. Based on the symptoms you have mentioned it appears that your mother may be suffering from a condition called normal pressure hydrocephalus, its quite common in the old age. With the shunt in place and proper rehab. patients seem to recover well in about 3-4 months. But since you have mentioned that your mother is also suffering from dementia or alzheimers the recovery may take may be a little more time.
you can carry on with the rehabilitation services, they'll guide you well. You can also consult a geriatric physician , he is a doctor who takes care of old people's health. He will conduct regular home visits and keep a check on your mothers health including anyother ailments if at all she has.
thank you wishing her a speedy recovery..!
