Hi,I am Dr. Joan F. Tryzelaar (Cardiac Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a valve replacement and aeorta repair in early February. Things are going generally well. However, even after this time I tend to retain fluids later in the day. I notice it in my ankles. After sleeping the excess fluid is gone in the morning. Should I worry abou this? I can actually feel the building up when it happens...thanks
Fluid accumulation may be related to your valve and heart function.Your heart may be somewhat weak causing this fluid collection. You need to be on pills to decrease body fluids and keep your feet elevated when sitting or lying down. That will help you solve the issue and also keep fluid intake less.
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, if this is the ankle swelling then it could be due to some circulatory disturbances and may not be pure edema, try to keep the leg in elevated position second if this is the edema then it must be associated with breathing difficulty and if it is not like that then no need to worry about this, better to get done the hemoglobin test, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day.
