What Causes Food To Feel Stuck In Chest?

When I eat it feels like food is stuck in my chest, like food is stuck and isn t getting into my stomach. I feel bloated (like I ve eaten 10 pounds of cheese). When I try to burp I get food particles in my mouth. I m a bit scared as to why this is happening and what it is. I ve had some difficulties with stress and panic attacks and this often happens during these times. It now seems to be happening when I m relaxed and not under stress. Why? :(

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

The feeling of food stuck in chest or esophagus could be either due to some throat irritation or esophagitis.

However, this type of feeling could also be temporary and may get subsided by itself without any treatment. The feeling of something stuck is actually due to nervous stimulation which may last up to 24 hour,so there isn't anything to be worried here.

Also, feeling bloated could be due to acute gastritis for which you can take antacids and syrup digene for symptomatic relief.

If there is no change in feeling of stuck inside throat, then i would advice you to see ENT specialist who will examine you thoroughly with some relevant investigations like pharyngoscopy to detect the underlying cause, mainly to check if there is any infection or swelling inside.

Meanwhile, you can take symptomatic treatment like anti-emetics (domstal) or antihistamines (levocetrizine) which are available over the counter.

Regards,
I find this answer helpful
