What Causes Food To Get Stuck In The Throat And Difficulty In Swallowing?

I am having trouble with my throat and this scares me. Sometimes when I am eating my food gets stuck in my throat and stops me from swallowing and breathing. I panic and start vomiting until the food unlodges and comes out. I have switched to a liquid diet hoping that this won t happen anymore.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Possible causes are esophagitis or achalasia cardia or esophageal spasm or malignancy etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. You have to consult your gastroentrologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
