Good afternoon! I am a 40 year old male in good health with no previous health issues. Last night I feel asleep with my feet hanging off the bed. I woke up and my right foot was asleep. It stayed that way for about 1 hour. I then spranged the left ankle. Today it is swollen and still numb. I have total strength and movement but still tingles. Should I be concerned. I have no other numbness in an extremetes and feel fine. Thanks!
You are having foot swelling and numbness on your feet. Foot swelling is commonly due to kidney disease, venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis, heart failure, water retention, etc. You should limit the amount of salt intake, stay active. Avoid sedentary lifestyle. Get clinically examined by a GP, get all required tests and investigations done. You will be treated accordingly. Keep your foot elevated on a stool while sitting and on a pillow when sleeping.
Do not stand on the same position for a long period of time. Tingling and numbness is indicative of developing peripheral neuropathy. Get connected to a Neurologist, get NCV test done. Get treated at the earliest. Take food rich in folate, B6, B12 and you can also take supplements. Stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
The numbness that you feel could be related to the compression of the nerve due to a wrong position during sleep. The swelling is related to the sprained ankle. If the pain persist, I recommend consulting with an orthopedist for a physical exam.
