What Causes Foul Odor From Mouth With Alcoholism?

my husband drinks beer every night and almost the entire day on days he doesnt work. He has started to emit this horrendous odor. I am afraid it means his liver and kidney are not working and may shut down. I cant explain the smell except to say its horrible. He is a clean person otehrwise. he showers every night and brushes his teeth etc. he even turns the sheets almost black but its not dirt. Are his organs starting the shut down process?

Hello,

While I can't know without seeing him and the organs can shut down with alcoholism organ shutdown is pretty rapidly fatal so I doubt that is the cause and halitosis with alcoholism is well known. There are several reasons. The alcohol itself doesn't age well. Alcohol causes stomach contents to regurgitate. Alcoholics often have bad teeth and sinuses that become infected. They mostly do not brush their teeth. And they often smoke.
