Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Sir, my baby is 6 and a half months old and still weighs 5.5 kg.her birth weight was 3.2 kg.now the problem is my baby s stool is very foul smelly and she always poo when she had something.she is bottle feed and started solid food.may i know what may be the reason for bad smelly stool and not gaining proper weight??
Thanks for the query. Diarrhea, bloating, or gas (flatulence) may accompany foul-smelling stools. Often a change in your diet is the reason for foul-smelling stools. Carbohydrate intolerance–the inability to completely process carbohydrates (sugars and starches). Dairy protein and other food allergies. Infections that affect the intestines may also cause foul-smelling stools. E. coli and Salmonella, as well as certain other viruses, bacteria, or parasites are some of the common infection. Weight is near normal (birth weight doubles at 5 months). Still you can go for stool examination after consulting a doctor to rule out any infection or malabsorption. Formula should be made with proper amount of water. Try iron and multivitamin drops. Hope i helped you.
