What Causes Foul Smelling Urine In A Child?

My 3 year old daughter has very foul smelling urine. She has since she was an infant. Her skin also smells strongly of urine. She drinks a good amount of water during the day (rarely juice and she doesn t like milk), but I limit what she drinks after dinner because her diaper is always soaked in the morning. Every single morning she has soaked through and her diaper is filled from front to back. She tested negative for a UTI and her sugars were normal. Is there anything else that could cause this?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

If dehydration and urine infection is ruled out, another thing to consider in abnormal smelling urine ans skin is a metabolic disorder (inborn error of metabolism). But in an otherwise healthy child, who thrives well, this is extremely unlikely and does not warrant further testing

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
