I was in bed with my husband just now and an odor literally filled the room. It was discharge and it is amazingly pungent! I have had an IUD for 5 years, could i have a really bad infection? I have had a very low grade fever a few times over the last few months but thought it was just my body igniting off a virus. I had a pap 1 1/2 years ago that was normal. Most women have had an infection and know what that odor can be but this was Alarming enough that my husband got out of bed to check what on earh that smell was. I am freaking out!!!!!

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. As you have an IUD in place you should rule out an infection by doing a pelvic examination by gynecologist followed by ultrasound examination. If that is clear then it can be bacterial vaginosis.A smear also should be taken for microsopy and also for culture. For such case i advise combination of antibiotics like clindammycin or metronidazole plus clotrimazole as vaginal suppository or oral tablet.I also recommend them to use intimate wash regularly to normalize vaginal bacterial flora and PH and there by prevent from getting further infections.Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
