What Causes Foul Vaginal Odor?

My daughter stated that she has noticed vagina odor lately and is not sure where it stems from. She is a virgin, she just recently started swim classes in college and has used douches before, as well as body sprays in the panty area. She says there is not a discharge with the odor. Is there anything she can do to try and remedy this problem?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. There are a few points I noticed as the possible sources: 1. The swimming classes, where there is a possibility of contaminated water entering the vagina. 2. the use of douches, which is not advised as it can traumatize the sensitive genital region predisposing it for infections. 3. use of body sprays which can also cause a chemical reaction. In view of all these, I would ask you to let her see a specialist for a proper clinical exam and plan further management. Avoid douches, sprays, tight underwear and tampons. Use mild antiseptic solutions for genital hygiene. Hope this helps.
