For a couple of years now, I have been experiencing intermittent gagging. I never throw up. There doesn t seem to be any rhyme or reason for why this happens. I can go days without gagging and then will gag seemingly out of the blue!! It s very frustrating, particularly in public. Any ideas about what could be causing this?
Acid reflux could cause a feeling of obstruction in the throat leading to gagging, and this could be in turn worsened by stress. Look for a pattern in these gagging episodes to see if there is underlying mental stress or anxiety. Avoid exposure to dust and smoke, and fried, processed foods. If all this does not work, better to consult an ENT.
