Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 3 yrs old and is suffering frequently from chough for more than 2 months. Although the cough is not very severe, the frequency of re-occurrence is very often. We have tried administering him, Cofstop-Z (Cetirizine Hydrocloride & Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide) as the pediatric had prescribed it. Now we are at a different place and as the chough has re-occurred we referred to another Pediatric out here. After hearing the facts, the doctor has prescribed my son with Deriphyllin (Syrup of Etofylline & Theophylline) for five days and has advised a review. He has also suggested a blood & Urine test along with a chest X-ray. My son, is quite active and weighs 15 kgs. He coughs when he exerts himself and also during early morning hours during sleep. Is it safe to give him Deriphylline with no confirmation on Bronchitis or related problem? Or is the cough just because of the winter or the low temperature in the hill station?
