What Causes Fungus Or Mould Under My Thumb Acrylic Nail?
I have what looks like fungus or mold under my thumbnail acrylic nail. I had nails done a week and noticed it looked gray. That was a few days ago...I thought it was mold and was in the process of using a file to get the acrylic down enough to get nail off. Well, it just fell off.... and MY nail was split down the middle and terrible looking discoloration . What should I do until I can get to the nail tech. I am 74 yrs old and in poor health.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history you are suffering from Onychomycosis, my treatment advice is:
1. Maintain good hygiene and trim nails regularly. 2. Apply an antifungal lotion like Clotrimazole lotion on affected nails. 3. Other treatment options are oral Fluconazole, Itraconazole, and Terbinafine medicines are taken only after consulting a Dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
